What are scaffolding Couplers?

Scaffolding couplers are important components in the construction industry, serving as the connectors that hold scaffolding structures together. They can also be used to maintain complex or deteriorated architectural works to ensure proper connection and installation of the scaffolding at the work site. With various types of scaffolding couplers available, proper selection and installation are crucial to ensuring the safety of workers and the overall stability of the scaffold.

Double Couplers: Double Couplers are a type of scaffolding coupler that can be connected to a tube. With a safe working load of 6.1kN, they work well in resisting tension or compressive loads. Joining scaffold tubes in 90 degrees, they can be used in various types of scaffolding construction including in lighting rigs, staging and guard rails.

Pressed Connecting Sleeves: Pressed Connecting Sleeves are used to connect tubes end to end. They are designed for use in all types of scaffolding construction and also in lighting rigs, staging and guard rails. But they must only be used to join scaffold tube with the same external diameter.

Swivel Couplers: Swivel Couplers are used to connect tubes at any angles. With each half of the Coupler interconnected with a swivel pin, Swivel Couplers allow for flexibility in positioning, as they can rotate to accommodate various angles, making them ideal for complex scaffold designs. Typically they are used for connecting bracing members.

Putlog Head: The Putlog Head is made from pressed steel and are an extremely lightweight. It can be fixed to the end of a 48.3mm diameter scaffold tube and converted into “putlog tubes”, which is typically used when erecting scaffolding structures for new build projects or progressive site work. It is hardwearing, straightforward, and has a special zinc coating to increase the life span.

Scaffolding couplers are crucial for maintaining the structural integrity of scaffolding systems, allowing them to withstand the dynamic loads and stresses encountered during construction activities. Generally they are made from durable materials such as aluminum or steel, they are designed to resist corrosion and stand harsh conditions. Whether for construction, maintenance, or renovation projects, scaffolding couplers play an indispensable role in supporting the infrastructure that facilitates work at height.
